The GRSJUA is a student-led organization that exists to work within and amongst the margins. As a club committed to social justice in all its forms, we seek to address the collective and individual needs of marginalized students including, but not limited to: BIPOC, queer, trans, disabled, socioeconomically disadvantaged, immigrant, and alternative folks. We go beyond surface level interactions and prioritize spaces for students to unlearn systems of harm, engage with their emotions, receive tangible support (example: a hot meal), and encounter social justice as a liberatory tool of healing, joy, and resistance. The GRSJUA attempts to encompass social justice in multiple forms—hosting social, academic, peer-support, and mutual aid events, in addition to offering club advocacy for equity initiatives on and off campus.
We operate from an ethos of radical creativity, imagination, liberation, and joy. We aim to provide an accessible, open and community orientated space for students from all different backgrounds, disciplines and lived experiences to interact with social justice in a meaningful way.
The GRSJUA does not charge membership fees, all of our events are free, and all students are welcome to join!
Meet Your Major/Minor
This event aims to provide students within the Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice major/minor the opportunity to explore different career paths and a Masters by putting them in contact with GRSJ alumni and professors who can speak to the benefits of pursuing GRSJ academically and professionally. It is also an opportunity for students wishing to enroll in the program to understand it better. Includes a panel discussion, round robin, snacks, and more.
Date: Wednesday October 16, 2024
Time: 6:00-8:30 PM
Location: IKB in the Peña room
Artivism: Wonderland
This event was focused on bridging the space between activists and artists. It embodied an expression of radical creativity and transformative community through drag, live music, poetry, art, student vendors, and more. This year we plan to host another transformative and magical event in November.
Date: Friday November 1, 2024
Location and time: TBA
Community Dinner
In collaboration with SPROUTS and in an attempt to directly address the food insecurity crisis happening with students and staff on campus, the GRSJUA hosted a community meal over the winter break of 2023. This was during a time on campus where lots of student resources were less accessible and students could be more isolated, therefore hosting this community event was impactful. This year, we plan to hold another Community Dinner sometime before or during November's Reading Break and host other Mutual aid initiatives, such as a clothing swap, a solidarity event, and more.
The F Word Event
Our hallmark student-led and curated event that the GRSJUA has put on for over ten years. Each year, the GRSJUA chooses a theme to organize around. Our 2023/24 event was based on the theme of rest as resistance and community care as a form of self-care, highlighting local student vendors, performers and artists. The event included musical performances in different languages to decentralize Western music and a meditative art workshop emphasizing embodiment, mindfulness, and being present.
