The UBC Psychedelic Society is a group of passionate individuals who recognize the ability of psychedelic substances to facilitate altered states of consciousness that are invaluable for therapy and personal growth, as well as for enriching many fields of scientific and intellectual inquiry. We would like to promote an unbiased, fact-based discussion of these substances centered around their application to areas such as psychiatry, clinical psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, and sociology, and aim to help further the evident 21st-century Psychedelic Renaissance.
We take three key approaches to fostering a psychedelic community: social engagement, education and research, and ceremonial healing.
Our primary mission is to organize psychedelic-focused events for the broader UBC community. Recognizing the growing interest in psychedelics over the past decade, we adopt a harm reduction approach to create events prioritizing safety, information, and intention when discoursing about psychedelics. We host social events to build meaningful connections and a community of like-minded individuals, offer educational events that share harm reduction information and highlight cutting-edge research on psychedelics, and create spaces for mindful exploration of one's inner self through various integrative practices. These ceremonies are facilitated by trained professionals and may include modalities such as breathwork, Reiki, and meditation, which offer students an experience of endogenous altered states of consciousness.
Additionally, we share opportunities to engage with the psychedelic ecosystem by contributing to ongoing research and volunteering at conferences.
We invite you to become a member, which provides free access to nearly all of our events, exclusive discounts from organizations within the greater psychedelic ecosystem, and volunteering opportunities! Members must pay either the $15 one-term membership fee or the $25 two-term membership fee. For non-students, the one-term fee is $22.50.
If you are deeply passionate about furthering the Psychedelic Renaissance, are a UBC Vancouver student, and want to get more involved and help grow the club, be sure to stay on the lookout for our executive hiring, which typically takes place once a year in the spring!
