Right to Play UBC

What is Right to Play International?

Children are amongst the most vulnerable people in the world. For many, their futures are limited by violence, child labor, early marriage, illiteracy and inequality. They fight to attend and stay in school, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to be safe. Right to Play empowers children to rise above these challenges and find their way back to hope.

About Right to Play UBC

Right to Play UBC is an AMS club which, since 2011, has been operating in line with the principles and values of RTP International. We organize fundraisers and build awareness to support them in their mission of protecting, educating, and empowering children through the power of play. We run several events throughout the year, including the RTP USC Spin-a-Thon—a collaborative fundraiser with UBC Rec supporting Right to Play’s PLAY (Promoting Life Skills in Aboriginal Youth) program.

We are also passionate about holding a meaningful presence in the Vancouver community. Each week, we send a team of UBC students to organize and run after-school play programs for inner-city children, through partnerships with recognized at-risk elementary schools in the Vancouver School Board. We believe in the power of play to teach life skills, promote healthy habits, and build strong communities.

Last year, due to COVID restrictions, we provided opportunities for inner-city youth to speak about their learning experience in a virtual setting, a social event for 1st years, and a de-stress event for University students. This year, we hope to resume our on-campus and community-based work.

We are always looking to welcome creative and passionate individuals to join our dedicated team!
