STEM Fellowship

STEM Fellowship is a student-run, national organization that provides a platform for students interested in STEM fields to connect with one another and with professionals, engage in research and improve skills in scholarly writing. We seek to enable students to learn collaboratively, express their passion and love for science, and expand the scope of human knowledge through scientific, multidisciplinary inquiry.

Research Exploration Opportunity

What is REO?

The Research Exploration Opportunity (REO) program offers high school students, especially those from underrepresented groups in STEM (e.g. women in tech, LGBTQ+, Indigenous peoples, racial minorities, youth residing in rural or low-income areas), the free unique opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research at partner universities across Canada. The program enables students to explore the world of research, be immersed in the process of scientific inquiry, and ask questions about possible paths to this field. Each year our REO team invites different labs at UBC whose research we believe will interest local youth in Greater Vancouver. We aim to cover a broad range of research fields, including but not limited to: life science, math, computer science, engineering, and environmental and social sciences. The program runs during one week of spring break (mid-March) and students visit in person to participate in activities planned by lab mentors (usually graduate students).

How do I participate in REO?
