UBC Third World Eye Care Society
Our Mission
1. Facilitate a glasses recycling program at UBC that will benefit individuals who do not have access to eye care
2. Promote eye health within the UBC community
3. Host volunteering events that provide our members with an opportunity to meet like-minded individuals on campus
4. Hold events that provide members with a sense of belonging to something greater than themselves, on campus and beyond
5. Support the efforts of the Third World Eye Care Society volunteer mission trips to third world countries
Events
Our on-campus events consist of collecting, sorting, and organizing donated eyeglasses by type of prescription lenses. No previous experience is necessary.
Our off-campus events are held at the TWECS warehouse in Burnaby. They too consist of organizing donated eyeglasses. However, these events also offer students the opportunity to see the behind the scenes and preparation that takes place before the yearly TWECS volunteering/mission trips. Additionally, students have the chance to interact with the founders of the organization.
Sunglasses Fundraiser - Date TBA
Sunglasses are not able to be administered on mission trips to third world countries. As a result, we hold a sunglasses fundraiser in which these donated sunglasses have an opportunity to find a new home within the UBC community.
